PROBLEM/QUESTION:
How does (Independent Variable) the amount of females and males affect (Dependent Variable) how many adults there will be?
HYPOTHESIS:
If (IV) I put two females and one male in a jar with food source for 3weeks then (DV) I will expect to observe 323 adult fruit flies. Because there are two females and one male and each female lays 20 eggs per day so on day 14 the first batch is born.
BACKGROUND RESEARCH:
I've learned about fruit flies and there life cycle. One thing I learned was D.Melanogaster will produce new adults in two weeks. eight days in the egg and larval stages and six days in the pupal stage. Fruit flies may live up to eight weeks under optimal conditions. I've also learned how to tell the difference between a male and female.
PROCEDURE:
I chose the combination of two females and one male fruit flies. Then we put food in the vial. We put the flies asleep with fly nap Then you have to see if there male or female and put then in the vial. And then we put them by your tank. We will do weekly observations of out vial and two other groups vial then count the number of fruit flies after 3weeks. Then finally feed them to the spider.
DATA TABLE AND GRAPH:
ANALYSIS:
My data show how if we put 2 females and 1 male fruit fly in a vial will repopulate and the data was lower then my guess. In my hypothesis I thought that i was going to end up with 323 but the adults I ended up was with 112. My data doesn't support my hypothesis because my results were lower then it. I think my data doesn't support my hypothesis because the fruit flies were maybe dead and stuck in the bottom, and didnt grow right since it was in a small vial.
CONCLUSION:
My overall experiment was great we did this experiment to see how many fruit flies will there be in 3 weeks. Well we put 2 females and 1 male and we put them in a vial for 3 weeks and seen how many adults there will be. My data didn't support my hypothesis. One error in my experiment was the low outcome of adult. Maybe they died and got stuck to the bottom were the food was. We could add more fruit flies in the begging. One question i have is , Does fruit flies like to live in a pack.
